All followers of Jesus are called to steward spiritual boldness. We see a great example of stewarding spiritual boldness in Acts 4 with Peter and John before the religious council. In the face of resistance and cultural opposition, Peter and John heal a crippled man and preach the resurrection of Jesus. Immediately after, they are arrested and brought before religious leaders but despite the pressure to stay silent, they boldly proclaim that salvation is found in no one else but Jesus Christ. Their courage, filled by the Holy Spirit, astonishes the authorities, especially because they lacked formal education. What we read is a remarkable example of boldness rooted in obedience to God, not the fear of man.
When released, the Christian believers don’t retreat—they gather in prayer, asking not for protection and safety but for greater boldness to continue speaking God’s Word. They pray for signs, wonders, and healing through the name of Jesus, trusting God’s sovereignty over all opposition. Their prayer is answered as the place shakes, and new disciples are filled with the Holy Spirit, and they continue on speaking with boldness.
This spiritual courage also leads to unity among the community, sacrificial generosity, and continued gospel advancement. This chapter teaches that spiritual boldness must be continually surrendered to God, prayed over, and stewarded well—not for personal glory, but for the flourishing of Jesus’ disciples and the name of Jesus Christ. Last week at WayForward we had a National Gathering with all personnel across the country and we focused just that: Stewarding Spiritual Boldness by looking at the follow passages in Acts.
