Kingdom Communities Pt. II

Taken from a WayForward training in 2025.

In Part 1, we saw how the Kingdom of God is His sovereign rule, breaking into our world through Jesus Christ, and how Kingdom Communities embody His reign in everyday life. Our working definition is: Kingdom Communities are people gathering in apartments who are redeemed by Christ, living under His reign together, and embodying God’s will on earth as it is in heaven.

But the Kingdom was never meant to stop with us. From the beginning, Jesus called His followers to multiply—to go, to make disciples, and to extend His rule into every corner of creation.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19–20

This is where WayForward deploys the Four Fields of Kingdom Growth as a framework to Form Disciple-Makers.

  • Field 1: Entry (going into new apartments and areas).
  • Field 2: Gospel Seed (sharing the good news of Jesus Christ).
  • Field 3: Discipleship (nurturing growth in Christ through actionable & accountable obedience).
  • Field 4: Kingdom Communities (establishing communities of disciples that grow & multiply).
  • Part 5: Leaders (MAWL’tiply leaders to shoulder height).

When we talk about Kingdom Communities in multi-housing contexts, we are especially referring to Fields 3 & 4 & Part 5. Teams are helping people grow in obedience to Jesus and gather communities that embody His rule and reign and multiply outward.

Field 3: Growing Disciple-Makers

  1. Discovery Bible Studies (DBS): We use the Word of God in community settings as our curriculum so residents can hear, obey, and share Scripture themselves.
  2. Obedience-Based Discipleship: We use the 3/3 pattern of discipleship. We always ask, “What does God want me to do in response?” and we encourage accountability in the next gathering.
  3. Training: Teams are training new and existing disciples in the 411 Tool for regular encouragement, practice, and modeling.
  4. Shared Rhythms of Life: Invite residents to meals, service opportunities, and prayer walks—discipleship happens in everyday life, not just structured meetings.

Field 4: Gathering Kingdom Communities

  1. Empower Local Leaders: Raise up leaders from within the community rather than importing them. Paul’s model was always to entrust the gospel to faithful men and women (2 Tim. 2:2).
  2. Send and Reproduce: Encourage new believers to start Discovery Bible Studies with their networks—neighbors, co-workers, and family.
  3. Celebrate Multiplication: Share testimonies of new groups forming, baptisms happening, and leaders stepping up. This keeps vision alive and inspires perseverance.
  4. Form Simple Churches: As groups of disciples consistently gather, they sometimes identify themselves as local expressions of Christ’s body—even if they meet in a living room or apartment.

Part 5: MAWL’tiply Leaders

  1. Guide: WayForward guides people through Modeling, Assisting, Watching, and Launching (MAWL) in every area of life and this acts as a leadership pipeline to MAWL’tiply Leaders.
  2. Peer-Based Problem Solving: We desire to empower resident leaders as Christian practitioners towards capacity building to address barriers and obstacles on their own.

Kingdom Communities are not just Bible studies or fellowship groups. They are living outposts of God’s reign in apartment communities—where disciples grow deeply in Christ (Field 3), new communities grow and mature (Field 4), and leaders are multiplied (Part 5). They carry the DNA of the Great Commission: disciples who make disciples, communities that birth new communities.

As we pursue Kingdom Communities across multi-family properties, let us remember Jesus’ promise: “I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
