I wanted to share a verse that encouraged me last week.
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.”
Psalm 37:5
This great reminder highlights what we are called to do in God’s word and what God promises to do. We commit our way – all our ways – to God. It does not mean we commit partially, or half-heartedly, or when it’s convenient. Commitment is holistic and is characterized by a deep trust. And in this wisdom psalm of David, what exactly are we committing to God? Everything! We commit every way, every day, our entire life journey, work, family, and all manners of conduct and behavior to God.
Unlike the evildoers in this chapter, those who trust in him “befriend faithfulness” (v.3), “refrain from anger” (v.8), “wait for the LORD” (v.9), and “will remain after the Lord purges the wicked” (Prov. 2:21). We can commit our way to the Lord regardless of the evil around us because God is just.
We don’t have to trust in our own understanding (Prov. 3:5) but stay loyal to the Lord. So I want to challenge us: is our commitment in the Lord today? Is our trust completely in Him? Is our loyalty to God expressed in contentment? If it is, we can be faithful, patient, and confident He will act.
